Chef Charlie Hodson is to walk from Norwich to London, relying on just the goodwill of strangers and the change in his pocket, to raise awareness of mental health.
Last year Charlie Hodson stepped away from the stove to dedicate more time to mental health advocacy and as part of that mission is to undertake 122 mile journey in aid of Walk for Wellbeing.
Hodson said that he wants to replicate real-life, where people can be side-swiped by mental health or accidents that they can’t prepare for.
He has done no preparation for the walk and will set off simply with what he is wearing and some loose change, relying instead on the help of friends and strangers.
Hodson aims to make it to London’s Battersea Park on 13 October to take part in Hospitality Action’s 20km Walk for Wellbeing.
He will be charting his progress – and making calls for assistance – on Instagram.
Hodson said: “I’ll be using this time as I walk to share a message that’s it’s okay not to be okay. Because even as strangers we might never meet, we might never know whom we help.”
Hodson has been supported by Hospitality Action through his own mental struggles and said that this was his way of paying it forward for others to receive the same care.
