Boxpark has signed a deal to open a 17,000 sq ft site under the railway arches in the Digbeth area of Birmingham as part of a £5m investment.
The group has taken on a 15-year lease with landlords the Arch Company for the Floodgate Street Arches site.
The area is situated south east of the city centre and was formerly an industrial zone which is now an area dubbed Birmingham’s creative quarter with a number of offices, restaurants, bars and leisure units opening over the last decade.
The new Boxpark is expected to create approximately 200 new job opportunities for the local community and will be the first Boxpark in the Midlands.
The site will offer guests a covered food hall which will see 10 kitchen units and four internal bars set across two floors.
The company expects Boxpark to drive significant footfall to the area with over a million people expected to visit each year, based on metrics from existing Boxpark sites.
“Our team has searched extensively for sites in Birmingham since 2016, having considered multiple locations across the city. As a dynamic and fast-growing business, we hope Boxpark will be an exciting addition to Birmingham,” said Boxpark chief executive Simon Champion.
“The city’s food, drink and leisure scene has become known as one of the best in the country and we can’t wait to add to that with a space that will support and champion local creatives from food to art, music and beyond.”
Boxpark Birmingham will following the opening of Boxpark Liverpool next spring, while a new Boxhall concept will begin its roll out in Bristol and London’s Liverpool Street in 2024.
