Independent craft brewer BrewDog has acquired cider company Hawkes as it continues expansion.
Writing on its blog, the self-styled punk brewer said the acquisition would provide the expertise to support its move into the sector.
Simon Wright, the founder of Hawkes cider who will remain at its helm, said: "We are in an industry that has for far too long allowed ‘big' cider and mass-market products to hold back innovation and growth.
"I've long been impressed by BrewDog's attitude and approach to challenging the status quo of beer in the UK and around the world. Just like us, they stand up for those who want to break free, make a difference and take the cider scene into an entirely new era. I can't wait to see what the future holds."
BrewDog has said it plans to support the growth of Hawkes in the UK and internationally, while expanding its range.
Earlier this year BrewDog announced plans to enter the hotel market by opening a 22-bedroom DogHouse at its headquarters in Aberdeenshire, Scotland.
