Alastair Storey and Tommy Miah rewarded in Queen's Birthday Honours

Alastair Storey has been awarded an OBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours.

Storey is chairman and chief executive of Westbury Street Holdings (WSH), which is the parent company of six brands, BaxterStorey, Benugo, Holroyd Howe, Caterlink, Searcys and Portico.

Last year in April he was appointed the president of the Institute of Hospitality (IoH) and in 2012 was ranked as the most influential person in the hospitality industry in a list of 100 industry professionals compiled by The Caterer.

In 2011 along with fellow trustees, Storey launched the Gold Service Scholarship, created to highlight the importance of Front of House service. The Queen is patron on the Gold Service Scholarship.

Chef and restaurateur Mohammad Ajman (Tommy) Miah received an MBE for services to charity and to the hospitality industry.

Miah, who was born in East Pakistan (now Bangladesh), founded Raj restaurant in Edinburgh in 1991. He also founded the International Indian Chef of the Year competition to promote innovation and quality in Indian cooking, and has presented his own television show in Bangladesh. He has also established the foundation of the Tommy Miah Institute of Hospitality Management in Bangladesh, which trains Bangladeshis in the international hospitality industry.

Meanwhile, restaurateur and designer Sir Terence Conran became a member of the Order of the Companions of Honour for his services to design.

Conran founded Conran Restaurants in 1991 with Joel Kissin before the business (now D&D London) was sold in 2006 to David Loewi and Des Gunewardena as part of a management buyout.

Conran owns Bibendum in London, which earlier this year was relaunched with chef Claude Bosi at the helm.

Television presenter and cookery book writer Delia Smith was also made a Companion of Honour for services to cookery.
