Stephen Boxall steps down as managing director of the Ritz

Stephen Boxall has left his position as managing director of the five-red-AA-star Ritz hotel, London, after more than five years in the role. The hotel confirmed that he had tendered his resignation, but declined to comment on the reasons behind his departure.

Boxall had been at the Ritz for nearly 20 years, having joined the 137-bedroom hotel in 1996 from the Berkeley hotel as restaurant manager, before being promoted to hotel manager five years later. He was appointed general manager in 2001 and in 2006 oversaw the celebrations for the hotel's centenary anniversary.

In his role as managing director, which he was appointed to 2009, Boxall retained general manager responsibilities.

The hotel, said in a statement: "Stephen's leadership with the support of all of the team has established and maintained the Ritz London's global reputation for excellence in hospitality and the business has achieved numerous awards over the years.

"The board, his colleagues and friends at the Ritz London have thanked Stephen for his loyalty, commitment and hard work and wish him every success for the future."
