The budget hotel brand is “actively searching” for 40 sites within the M25
Whitbread has acquired the freehold of 35 Red Lion Square in central London for conversion into a 150-room Hub by Premier Inn hotel.
It comes as the budget hotel brand revealed it is “actively searching” for 40 locations that can be developed into Premier Inn and Hub by Premier Inn within the M25.
The newly acquired 47,500 sq ft site, which is set over eight storeys, was purchased from the Royal College of Anaesthetists (RCoA) for an undisclosed sum.
It had acted as the headquarters of the professional body responsible for anaesthesia from 2006.
Jonathan Langdon, senior acquisitions manager at Whitbread, said: “With 35 Red Lion Square now under Whitbread’s ownership, I’m looking forward to working with the planning team at Camden Council on our plans to retrofit and extend the existing building, and ultimately channel the wider benefits of a hotel in this location to the local community.”
Whitbread launched its first Hub by Premier Inn hotel in 2014. Its portfolio has since grown to eighteen sites, fifteen of which are based in London.
These hotels range in size from 60 to 690 bedrooms, with a £200m site due to open at the Strand in London in 2028.
Whitbread was advised on the 35 Red Lion Square acquisition by Frame Real Estate Partners. The Royal College of Anaesthetists was advised by Newmark.
