Warwickshire hotel appoints liquidators amid sudden closure

Brownsover Hall admitted to owning “limited assets” and asked staff to “limit their social media activity”.

Brownsover Hall in Warwickshire has closed suddenly after the property owners surrendered its licence to trade.

In a notice on its website, the hotel stated it had ceased trading yesterday (22 August) and could no longer accommodate any current or future bookings.

Brownsover Hall said: “We apologise for being unable to give greater notice to all parties and we are in the process of contacting all of its employees, customers, suppliers and stakeholders.”

It admitted to owning “limited assets”, adding it was unlikely for unsecured creditors, such as guests who had paid deposits, to receive a dividend.

Documents filed on Companies House showed the owner of the property, MLP Hospitality, which lists Sarabpal Bami as its director, had £85,121 in assets but current liabilities of £349,224 in the year ended 31 May 2023.

Bridge Newland Limited has been appointed to assist with “placing the company into creditors voluntary liquidation”, while a formal notice of the insolvency process is expected to be sent to creditors next week.

The hotel added: “All employees are asked to limit their social media activity, regarding their position or the position of the company, as any misinformation could cause greater distress.

“The director sincerely apologises for any distress caused by the closure and can confirm that he is committed to working towards closing the business as quickly as possible, in the appropriate way, so that all parties are formally notified of their position as promptly as possible.”

It also stated a purchaser for Brownsover Hall has been found, which has plans to close the business “for a period of time” during a refurbishment of the Grade II-listed Victorian Gothic mansion.

The Caterer has contacted Bridge Newland Limited for further comment.
