Waney family to open Greek restaurant Meraki

This month, the Waney family (behind London restaurants Roka, Zuma and the Arts Club) will open Meraki, a contemporary Greek restaurant in London Fitzrovia.

‘Meraki' is a Greek term referring to the love and soul that someone puts into their work. The restaurant concept focusses on "the finest Mediterranean ingredients", sharing dishes, and "warm, generous, hospitality".

Led by Greek chef Dimitrios Siamanis, Meraki's menu will celebrate Greek produce such as bottarga from Missolonghi, graviera cheese from Naxos and galotiri cheese from Crete.

Dishes will include slow-cooked ox cheek with hilopites from Trikala, artichokes and graviera; baked cod wrapped in vine leaves, artichokes and broad beans in a mussels broth; as well as seasonally changing sharing mezze dishes, chargrilled meats and whole fish dishes.

The heavily Greek-influenced drinks list will feature a large selection of Greek wines from independent growers and will also showcase some of the country's growing craft beer industry. A dedicated cocktail bar will serve drinks made from Greek herbs including kritamo, mastic and marjoram, and using citrus from the Greek island of Naxos.

The restaurant will have two entrances, on Great Titchfield Street and Foley Street, with their own al-fresco terraces. The restaurant will accommodate 100 covers and the ground level bar will hold 30 people, with an extra 20 seats on the two terraces.
