A Shropshire restaurant waitress has been jailed for four months after falsely accusing the owner of the restaurant of sexually assaulting her.
Emma Meredith, 28, who had worked at the Jolly Frog near Ludlow, admitted perverting the course of justice during a hearing before Worcester Crown Court.
The court heard that Meredith, who had been sacked by restaurant owner Martyn Emsen after only a week's work, took revenge by ringing police to say that he had pinched her on the bottom.
Emsen was then questioned by police and was only told he was cleared two weeks later.
In mitigation, it was said that Meredith had made up the story because she was been afraid to tell her husband she had been sacked.
Passing sentence Judge Alistair McCreath said: "This was an unjustified slur on a man's reputation and he was badly affected by it."
