Vineet Bhatia London closes one week after receiving Michelin star

Vineet Bhatia in London's Chelsea has closed its doors just a week after winning a Michelin star.

The restaurant, which was awarded its star last Monday (2 October), announced the news on its website on 8 October but is expected to re-open in an as-yet undisclosed location.

The statement read: "Vineet Bhatia thanks all its patrons and guests for the support and encouragement received. It has been a wonderful journey and until we meet again"

A spokesperson at the restaurant confirmed that last night was its last service, but that it was relocating and would be re-opening in two months in an unconfirmed location.

Mumbai chef Bhatia, who first won a Michelin star in 2001, took inspiration from his travels and added Indian flavours to dishes using British ingredients at his London flagship.

After being awarded the Michelin star on Monday, he said: "It's very important for us, I'm chuffed for my family and the team. It's the dream!"

Bhatia started in London in 1993 at Star of India on Old Brompton Road, South Kensington. After five years he set up Vineet Bhatia - Hammersmith which closed after three months. In 1999 he opened Zaika which was awarded a Michelin star in 2001.

In 2004 he opened Rasoi in Chelsea, which was relaunched and renamed to Vineet Bhatia London last year.

Bhatia owns eight other restaurants including Rasoi By Vineet, Geneva; Rasoi By Vineet, Bahrain; Amari By Vineet, Mauritius; Indego By Vineet, Dubai; Maharaja by Vineet, Saudi Arabia; Saffron Lounge By Vineet, Qatar; Maharaja By Vineet, Riyadh; and Ziya, Mumbai.
