An 80-bedroom Travelodge is set to anchor the £50m Southend-on-Sea Seaway Leisure development alongside an Empire Cinema.
The proposed mixed-use scheme comprises a 150,000 sq ft cinema-anchored family leisure scheme, including a multiplex, 10 restaurant units and a hotel. The first two restaurant units have been pre-let to the Restaurant Group, which operates Frankie & Benny's and Chiquito restaurants.
Turnstone Estates agreed the conditional acquisition of the 2.3 hectare site, which is currently used as a surface car park, from Southend-on-Sea Borough Council. The scheme is expected to generate around 450 jobs.
A planning application is expected to be submitted in summer 2017. Works could commence in 2018 with an opening anticipated in late 2019 or early 2020.
