Raymond Blanc â" are leading the campaign to sign up participants for this yearâs Restaurants Against Hunger fundraising month.Â
A high-profile media campaign will encourage consumers to âFight Hunger. Eat Outâ at participating restaurants throughout October.
Founded in 1998 by humanitarian organisation Action Against Hunger, Restaurants Against Hunger is an international movement that has, to date, raised more than £1.2m to tackle child hunger.
Restaurants can raise funds for the charity by adding an optional donation to the bills, donating a small percentage from a designated dish, or by hosting a special event.
Blanc, an ambassador for Action Against Hunger, said the campaign had attracted 500 participating restaurants last year.
âIâm a keen supporter of Action Against Hungerâs campaigns and what I particularly love about Fight Hunger. Eat Out is that it really works,â he said.
âIt encourages diners to eat out and try new restaurants whilst uniting the industry and its clientele in helping those less advantaged.â
The campaign is backed by a host of leading chefs, including Antonio Carluccio, Michel Roux Jnr, Giorgio Locatelli and Oliver Rowe, along with top food critics such as The Observerâs Jay Rayner, and The Evening Standard's Charles Campion and Fay Maschler.
