Tom Aikens to relaunch Tom's Kitchen Chelsea

Tom Aikens will relaunch his flagship Tom's Kitchen restaurant in London's Chelsea with a new menu this spring.

The restaurant will undergo an extensive refurbishment by B3 Designers, as well as launching a new menu offering seasonal British small plates.

Tom's Kitchen Chelsea first opened in 2006 as a contemporary brasserie, serving British comfort food classics in a relaxed, informal environment. Now, 12 years on, the restaurant's redesign will create a more "modern and comfortable" setting for the sharing-style British menu.

Aikens said: "I am incredibly proud of everything that we have achieved over the past 12 years at Chelsea. Moving forwards, the redesigned space and new menus will allow the restaurant to be more innovative, modern and comfortable."

The restaurant will be closed from 12 February to 20 March, reopening from 21 March. Initially the new menu will just be offered at the Chelsea site, however a spokesperson for Tom's Kitchen confirmed a roll out across the other Tom's Kitchen sites is under consideration.

The new menu will change according to the seasons, with small plates such as beef tartare with black garlic aïoli, new season turnips and puffed rice; and salt-baked heritage carrots, strained yogurt and carrot-top pesto.

Larger sharing dishes will include scallops with black pudding and peas; and spatchcock Norfolk quail with peanut sauce and pickled sweet cucumber relish. The restaurant will also continue to offer comfort food options such as fish pie with cider, leeks and parsley crumb; chicken schnitzel with violet artichoke salad and Parmesan; and seven-hour, slow-cooked shoulder of lamb with mashed potato and balsamic onions.

The refurbishment will also see a rearrangement of the floorplan. The bar will become a focal point of the restaurant for both counter dining and drinks, with relaxed window seating also planned. Both the ground floor and first floor dining rooms will have new "luxurious" upholstery and a richer, darker colour scheme.

There are three other Tom's Kitchen sites across London as well as one international flagship in Istanbul, and a new restaurant, bar and deli in Birmingham, all serving British comfort food classics.
