Till stolen from Daniel Clifford's Midsummer House in early morning burglary

A till was stolen from Daniel Clifford's Midsummer House early this morning.

The chef told The Caterer that after spending 20 minutes kicking in the front door of the two-Michelin starred restaurant at 2.44am, two suspects got away with a till containing just £30.

Despite relatively little being stolen, Clifford estimated that the damage to the door would cost the business between £2,500 and £3,000.

He tweeted images from his CCTV cameras with the message: "Midsummer was broken into last night. If you have a idea who it is. Police would love to know."

He told The Caterer: "We're gathering all the CCTV footage. We've got them climbing over the fence, we've got them kicking the door in and we've got them leaving with the till. It's funny, you tweet a video and five or six people come back and say oh it's happened to me in the last week. It seems to be on the up.

"I don't think there's more we can do. We've got cameras but if they want to get in, they're going to get in. The thing that doesn't make sense is restaurants don't take cash any more, everything is done on card."
