A mother has won compensation after taking the Ritz London to court for a disappointing meal which consisted "hard scones, spilled tea and sandwiches straight from the fridge".
In May this year Janet Wilson, alongside her husband and two daughters, spent £216 on afternoon tea at the hotel which they booked to celebrate their eldest daughter achieving her gold Duke of Edinburgh award.
However, the family experienced "rock hard" scones, sandwiches "brought out of the fridge" and complained that the food was served over them, instead of to the side.
She requested a 50% refund on the meal but was refused, the Daily Mail reported. The hotel instead offered a gift package.
Wilson then took the hotel to small claims court where the judge ordered the hotel to pay back £108.
Food and beverage manager Nick Bromhead said: "Mrs Wilson experienced our usual standard of tea service… from reviewing the CCTV footage and personally investigating the matter I feel that Mrs Wilson had experienced the Ritz Afternoon Tea as advertised and booked."
