This week marks an important milestone in the history and future of The Caterer, as we focus on digital content and the growth of our events portfolio.
Since 1878, The Caterer has proudly supported, championed and inspired hospitality operators with news, advice and analysis, as well as recognising industry leaders through our unrivalled Cateys awards. We have celebrated our readers’ incredible successes, watched independent businesses develop into exciting brand portfolios, followed the careers of hospitality stars, and also shared in the heartbreak of the loss of some much-loved names.
We all recognise that this industry is the lifeblood of the economy and vital to communities up and down the country. That is why we’ve made sure The Caterer will continue to be at the heart of the hospitality sector, providing the critical content you need to grow your business.
As we prioritise investment in our exceptional digital output, we will cease printing physical issues of The Caterer magazine. Our readers want the latest breaking news stories, in-depth features and analysis instantly.
With the new thecaterer.com, which will be launched this week, we can better service the industry with information as it happens and as you need it.
Over 250,000 users now visit thecaterer.com each month to consume breaking news and industry insight across the hotel, restaurant, contract catering and pub sectors. Meanwhile, last year we welcomed some 5,000 delegates at The Caterer events, including our online summit series and the Cateys, which celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2023.
As our online audience has grown we have prioritised serving news immediately, which is why 40,000 professionals request the daily Breakfast Briefing newsletter, digesting the morning’s news on the go. We will now focus all our resources on news when you want it, how you want it.
The investment in a new online platform will retain the DNA of The Caterer, while building on our industry-leading content and events programme to deliver ever more engaging and relevant articles and face-to-face opportunities. These include The Caterer People Awards, the latest addition to a comprehensive events programme that recognises and celebrates those working across the hospitality industry.
We look forward to continuing being right by your side as you develop your careers and grow your businesses.
Jacobs Media chairman Clive Jacobs said: "Since we acquired The Caterer over a decade ago I am proud of how the brand has served the industry with timely content and inspiration.
"This new site and our associated events give us even greater scope to supply exceptional content to hospitality operators as they need it.
"The turbulence of recent years have given us all pause to reflect on how better to serve our customers and demonstrated how quickly the landscape can change. This next stage in The Caterer’s evolution future-proofs the brand and our capacity to deliver the trusted content operators have depended on throughout their careers."
The Caterer editor James Stagg added: "The Caterer team are excited to embark on this new chapter and continue to deliver expert industry insight and analysis for readers along with unparalleled reach across the hospitality industry for our partners.
"We look forward to continue celebrating the careers of the brightest talents and development of the most exciting brands and businesses in our digital content and comprehensive conference and awards programme."
