The National Trust's Ashridge Estate straddles the Hertfordshire/Buckinghamshire border.
It comprises 5,000 acres of some of the finest woodland in the country, breathtaking chalk downlands and wide open commons. Ashridge is an open-space property, so people can come and go as they please at all hours, all year round. It is estimated that it attracts as many as one million visitors per year.
