Tamarind closes for £4m refurb and expansion

Michelin-starred Tamarind in London has closed for a £4m refurbishment before reopening with an expanded restaurant and new interiors in the autumn.

Tamarind, which was the first Indian restaurant in London to win a Michelin star, will expand into the floor above the existing restaurant after its owners managed to acquire the space.

Designer Sagrada will oversee the creation of new interiors as part of what the restaurant said would be a "new and much needed dining concept".

Although details of the new plans are scarce, the restaurant said guests would feel "like a member of a private club, but you won't have to pay through the roof to be one".

Rahul Khanna, director of Tamarind Collection said: "Tamarind has performed consistently for over 20 years.

"Recently we got the opportunity to acquire the floor above the restaurant.

"The space has big windows on both sides complementing the existing space very well.
