Takeaway alcohol to be allowed in England from April

Licensed venues in England will be permitted to sell takeaway alcohol from 12 April.

Pubs and restaurants in England will be able to start reopening outdoor areas from mid-April, the prime minister announced earlier this week, subject to the status of the vaccine rollout, hospitalisations and deaths, infection rates and the emergence of new variants.

Venues will be able to welcome guests in groups of up to six people, or two households, for table service in outdoor seating areas or for takeaway. Businesses will no longer be restricted to serving alcohol with a substantial meal and last year's 10pm curfew has also been scrapped.

Pubs and restaurants have not been permitted to sell takeaway alcohol in England under the latest restrictions unless via delivery and not through click and collect, takeaway or drive-through services.
