Susanne Hatje appointed general manager of Mandarin Oriental Mayfair

Susanne Hatje has been appointed general manager of the Mandarin Oriental Mayfair London, The Caterer understands.

 

Hatje was until recently general manager of the Mandarin Oriental New York hotel. She previously worked as the group’s director of residences and was the launch general manager at the Mandarin Oriental Boston and the Landmark Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong.

 

Posting on Instagram, she said: “I am truly excited for this exceptional opportunity ahead, to the privilege of being part of a new Mandarin Oriental hotel, and to move to London.”

 

She has also served as general manager of the Mandarin Oriental Munich and resort manager at Kahala Mandarin Oriental Hawaii. Earlier in her career, she worked in New York City as assistant manager of the Mark when the property was part of Rafael Hotels.

 

A German national, she joined the hotel industry in 1988 as an apprentice at Atlantic Hotel Kempinski in Hamburg and completed hospitality management programmes at New York’s Cornell University and Australia’s Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT), where she earned a Master’s in Business Administration.

 

The new 50-bedroom boutique hotel and residences on Mayfair's Hanover Square will become a sister property to the five-red-AA-star, 189-bedroom Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park London and was expected to open this year, however is now believed to be looking at a 2022 opening.

 

Designed by architect firm Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners, the new property is being developed by Clivedale London, the UK arm of the Indian-based finance and real estate company Indiabulls Group. It will feature a fine-dining restaurant, lobby lounge, bar, swimming pool, fitness centre, spa and private roof terrace with a second bar overlooking Mayfair.

 

The 80 residences will be located on the upper floors of the building and will be serviced by the hotel.

 

It was confirmed last week that Torsten Van Dullemen will replace Amanda Hyndman as general manager at the Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park London.
