Chef Nico Simeone said he felt the cocktail bar brand’s offer had become "unclear".
Somewhere by Nico has announced it will stop serving food to “realign” with its mission as an immersive cocktail bar.
The Six Company, which also owns the popular Six by Nico brand, has two Somewhere by Nico bars in Glasgow and Edinburgh which offer customers a themed cocktail experience with paired dishes that changes every six weeks.
But the brand has decided to stop serving food as it felt it negatively impacted the "creativity and consistency" of its cocktails.
In a statement to customers, Simeone said: “We created Somewhere by Nico out of a passion for crafting experiences that inspire connection, unity, and inclusion. Building upon the same foundations and ethos as Six by Nico, we aimed to incorporate the qualities that make us unique, such as a theme that changes every six weeks and an accessible fixed price point.
"However, with Somewhere, we wanted to go a step further by drawing inspiration from new and novel worlds through the art of multi-sensory mixology and cocktails.
"Our goal is to be known as the most extraordinary cocktail bar and venue, offering a unique and immersive experience like no other.
"Since launching Somewhere by Nico, I’ve felt that our proposition has become unclear. Our focus shifted more towards food, which unfortunately affected our cocktail creativity and consistency.
"For this, I sincerely apologise. To realign with our mission, we’ve decided that the future of the brand will be dedicated solely to curating and delivering the best cocktail-only experience."
Its new five-course cocktail experience will launch on 16 October and is priced at £45 with a ‘Murder on the Midnight Express’ theme running for six weeks until 24 November.
Six by Nico has three restaurants with its six-weekly changing menu in Glasgow, as well as a Somewhere by Nico bar. There are two restaurants in Edinburgh, along with a second Somewhere by Nico bar, as well as restaurants in cities including Aberdeen, Belfast, Birmingham, Cardiff, Dublin, Leeds, London, Manchester and Oxford.
