First look: Soho House to open in Manchester

Soho House has revealed a glimpse at the design of its first members’ club in Manchester ahead of its opening later this year.

The group will take over the top two floors of the old Granada Studios building overlooking a rooftop pool and outdoor terrace.

Soho House Manchester will include a member’s gym on the first floor including a free weights area, boxing zone, studio space, sauna and an outdoor terrace. Changing rooms will have showers, vanity areas and lounge spaces for members to relax after training.

The remaining floors of the building will feature members’ events spaces and overnight bedrooms.

Soho House founder Nick Jones previously said the venue would be inspired by the "glamour and grit" of Manchester and he hoped 80% of members would be from the area.

Motel and diner brand Mollie’s, which was created by Jones, is also due to open a 140-room site on the lower floors of the Granada Studios building.

The Manchester opening will be the 13th UK Soho House club and fourth outside London. The company launched in Brighton last year and also has sites in Oxfordshire and Somerset,

Jones founded member's club Soho House in London in 1995 and the business now has over 211,000 global members. He stepped down as chief executive last year and was succeeded by Andrew Carnie, who has served as president of parent company Membership Collective Group (MCG) since 2020.

In its third quarter results last year Soho House said its waitlist for membership had hit an all-time high of 85,000.

It posted earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) of £17m, up from £9.5m in the third quarter of 2021.

However, the group said it had delayed planned openings in Mexico City and Bangkok until 2023 to "reduce pressure on the business" and reflect a rise in costs.
