Sky has unveiled a new way for hoteliers to provide high definition (HD) television entertainment in every bedroom.
Powered by the Sky Bright Box, Sky Select is believed to be the first and only centralised distribution system in the UK that enables operators to tailor a selection of Sky HD channels across their hotels, both in room and in public spaces.
The new initiative will also incorporate the Freeview and foreign channel choice of guests, as well as enable hoteliers to swap existing channels or add more at any time.
Explaining the technology at its launch, Sky's head of product Andy Kydd, said that the Bright Box meant that hoteliers no longer had to have a box for each channel they wanted to feature in rooms.
"There is now no need to rely on residential boxes with this technology that is capable of supporting HD channels in any number of hotel rooms," he said.
"It's the only way you can get HD quality at scale over existing infrastructure."
Damian Saunders, strategy & commercial director at Sky Business, added that as well as offering extensive HD capability, the technology was able to loop a video channel for hoteliers that could feature a welcome message.
"With guests demanding and expecting more from their in-room TV viewing, it is important for hoteliers to offer an entertainment experience that matches what their guests enjoy in their own homes," he said.
"Sky Select provides the opportunity for hotels to exceed guests' expectations, by delivering a breadth of unmissable content in stunning high definition, with the flexibility to suit their business needs."
Sky Select offers four channel packages, covering sports, movies, entertainment, music, news and documentaries. To find out more contact the Sky hotels team on hotels@sky.uk.
