Chef Simon Bonwick has announced that he and his family will be leaving their Michelin-starred restaurant, the Crown at Burchetts Green in Maidenhead, Berkshire.
Their last service after nine years at the venue will take place on 18 December.
Bonwick said: “We have loved being in Burchetts Green, it’s been the perfect spot for a country pub restaurant offering our particular style of hospitality. It’s a story for us though that has reached a natural conclusion.”
He added: “We’ve had a great laugh and are happy and proud of the story we have created! We are all excited about starting new beginnings in a bright future.”
Bonwick bought the Crown in 2013 and has run the 20-cover venue mostly alone, serving French-inspired “luxurious pub food”.
Several of his nine children work at the restaurant, in which they live. Son George is general manager, wife Deborah oversees the books and until 2019, Bonwick’s eldest son Dean was director of the business before returning to the three-Michelin-starred Waterside Inn in nearby Bray, where he is assistant general manager.
The Crown at Burchetts Green was awarded a Michelin star in 2016 and has also won the Good Food Guide Best Pub Restaurant award and Michelin’s Welcome & Service Award in 2020.
