Seven illegal workers found in Bristol restaurant

Seven illegal workers were arrested following a raid by Immigration Enforcement at an Indian restaurant in Winterbourne, Bristol, last Thursday.

The men were Bangladeshi, aged between 30 and 61. Six employees now face deportation - three for overstaying their visitor visas, one for overstaying a student visa, one for overstaying a domestic worker visa and one for entering the country illegally.

One, aged 31, who had his leave to remain in the country curtailed, was released while his case is progressed. He must report to Immigration Enforcement on a regular basis.

The Royal Raj also faces a £140,000 fine, £20,000 per worker, unless it can provide proof that right-to-work document checks were carried out.

“Illegal working is not victimless â€" it undercuts honest employers, cheats legitimate job seekers out of employment opportunities and defrauds the public purse. I urge anyone with specific and detailed information about suspected immigration abuse to get in touch.”
