Sesta and Cardinal among December Michelin Guide additions

Sesta in London’s Hackney and Cardinal in Edinburgh are among 22 new restaurants that have been added to the Michelin Guide Great Britain & Ireland’s selection this month.

Chef Drew Snaith opened Sesta (pictured) with general manager Hannah Kowalski in the site of daily-changing tasting menu restaurant Pidgin in September. Michelin praised the neighbourhood restaurant for its “appealing à la carte” selection, which includes the fan-favourite nduja scotched olives.

Meanwhile, Cardinal in Edinburgh from 2024 Acorn Award winner Tomás Gormley was recognised for its creativity and “thoroughly modern outlook”. At the time of The Caterer’s visit in May, the chef was serving the likes of cherry wood-smoked lobster and maple granita with droppers of flowering currant, preserved lemon and Douglas fir syrups.

Korean fine dining restaurant Dosa from chef Akira Back and executive chef Jihun Maxime Kim at Mandarin Oriental Mayfair in London also made a mark on inspectors for its “utmost skill”  and “impressive harmony”, while Filipino restaurant Donia was described as an “earnestly run and brilliant value restaurant that you can’t help but love”.

Half of the additions for December 2024 were based in London.

Michelin updates its recommendations each month based on its inspectors’ travels, with any additions highlighted by a ‘New’ symbol.

It does not confirm if the restaurants will receive a star, Bib Gourmand or any other awards until the next formal Michelin Guide ceremony, which will take place in Glasgow on 10 February 2025.
