Serena von der Heyde, owner of the Georgian House hotel in London’s Victoria, has bought the Oak Bank hotel in the Lake District off an asking price of £1.5m.
Located in the village of Grasmere, the 13-bedroom property’s freehold was sold by Glynis and Simon Wood, who operated the hotel for 12 years ahead of their retirement.
During this time the Oak Bank went from two AA stars to a three-silver-AA-star hotel with two AA rosettes, a Michelin Plate and an entry in The Good Hotel Guide.
Von der Heyde plans to invest in the property and employee development and rebrand and relaunch the hotel in spring 2020.
She said: “I am very excited to be taking on a business in Grasmere, an incredible guest destination that provides many opportunities for adventurers, food fanatics and those who just want to relax and recharge in stunning surroundings. I am looking forward to releasing further details as we go into the new year.”
Alistair Greenhalgh, director at Christie & Co, which handled the sale, added: “Unsurprisingly, this opportunity generated interest from a number of parties and demonstrates how strong the market remains in the Lake District.”
