Sat Bains calls on chefs to sign off social media for mental health

Two-Michelin-starred chef Sat Bains is calling on chefs to sign off from social media in support of World Mental Health Day on 10 October.

At 10am the chef-proprietor of Restaurant Sat Bains in Nottingham said he would be posting a selfie of himself wearing the green ribbon (the international symbol of mental health awareness) and then signing off his personal social media channels for a week - and is encouraging others to do the same.

Bains hopes to raise awareness and highlight the importance of mental health and talking about it by posting the picture, as well as encourage others to wear the ribbon. All proceeds from the purchase of green ribbon badges go towards the Mental Health Foundation, which is focused on finding and addressing the sources of mental health problems.

He also intends to use the week "for reflection and to give myself a break from the cyber world", he said on Instagram.
