Roland Fasel appointed chief operating officer of Maybourne Hotel Group

Roland Fasel has been appointed as chief operating officer of the Maybourne Hotel Group, which manages London hotels Claridge’s, the Connaught and the Berkeley, as well as the Maybourne Beverley Hills and the Maybourne Riviera.

He will begin his role in April, which will include spearheading a programme of international expansion and building on the success of the group’s current portfolio.

Fasel, who is Swiss-born, has almost 30 years’ international experience in the industry. Prior to his appointment, he was chief operating officer of the Aman Collection for six years and general manager of the Dorchester and regional director of the Dorchester Collection for eight years until 2016.

His appointment comes ahead of the launch of the Emory, Maybourne's first new London opening in 50 years, this winter.

The group has also undertaken a major basement development at Claridge's, which saw the opening of its first spa.

Fasel said: “I am delighted to be joining Maybourne Hotel Group at such a pivotal time in its development and history. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity, and indeed a huge privilege to lead such an iconic brand and legendary collection of hotels, truly the pinnacle of my career. I can't wait to meet the dynamic teams across the group who have built such a strong reputation for delivering some of the finest hospitality in the world.”

Marc Socker and Gianluca Muzzi, joint chief executives of the Maybourne Hotel Group, said: “Roland joins us at a crucial time in our development and growth worldwide, as well as our ongoing commitment to ensure our London hotels stay ahead of the competition.

"The completion of our ground-breaking building project at Claridge’s, ensuring its ready to face the next 200 years of its life, and the recent announcement of our fourth hotel in the capital, the Emory, highlights our desire to develop and evolve our ultra-luxury brand. Roland’s particular expertise in this field will help accelerate our plans.”
