Fire-damaged Richmond Harbour Hotel & Spa to reopen following refurbishment

The 90-bedroom Richmond Harbour Hotel & Spa will reopen on 1 June after a serious fire caused extensive damage to the building two years ago.

Around 100 firefighters battled the blaze which destroyed the roof of the spa and the third floor of the 18th-century property in April 2019.

The spa has since been rebuilt and reconfigured after a multi-million-pound refurbishment. When it opens under the group’s HarSPA brand, it will offer a 20m swimming pool, hydrotherapy and plunge pools, 13 treatment rooms, gym, cardio suite, spin studios and wellbeing juice bar and café. A Zen garden will feature Scandinavian hot tubs, while products will be provided by Temple Spa.

The reopening team of the hotel will be headed by general manager Tom James and head chef John Pollard, who will oversee new open-plan restaurant the Gate Kitchen, Bar & Terrace.

Michael Warren, managing director of Harbour Hotels, said: “We have set a vision to create Richmond Harbour & Spa as a haven of peace and tranquillity, offering a wellness journey like no other, and distinct from all other hotel offerings in Richmond. Despite these challenging times, we are convinced that the hotel will appeal to local residents and global visitors alike, providing them with an urban sanctuary to switch off and recharge from the outside world.”

Located close to Richmond Park, the Richmond Harbour Hotel & Spa is one of 16 properties within the Harbour Hotels group, which was founded by chairman Nicolas Roach in 2003. A seventeenth hotel, the Harbour Beach Club & Hotel, overlooking South Sands beach in Salcombe, Devon, will be launched in the summer.
