Richard Turner announces closure of Turners at 69

Chef Richard Turner has closed his three-AA-rosette Birmingham based restaurant, Turners at 69.

A statement on Twitter reads: "I have made the decision to close Turners at 69 as of Monday 15 January 2018. The restaurant has enjoyed many wonderful years on the Birmingham dining scene.

"I would like to apologise to anyone who will be disappointed by the closure and extend a heartfelt thanks to everyone who has supported Turners at 69 over the years."

Turners at 69 opened a decade ago as Turners Restaurant. It relaunched as Turners at 69 in August 2016, with a new casual menu after the chef got "bored" of the canapé/tasting menu/petits fours template.

In March 2017, he told The Caterer: "I was bored of eating it and bored of cooking it. I was doing exactly what I would criticise other people for doing. That's not the kind of cook I am."

The restaurant had held a Michelin star since 2009 until 2017.

Turner was not available to comment at time of publishing.
