In-person New Year’s Eve fireworks to return for the first time since 2019

Sadiq Khan, the mayor of London, has announced that the city’s New Year’s Eve celebrations will return to the banks of the River Thames for the first time since 2019.

He said that this will be "one of the biggest nights of the year for our capital's hospitality industry".

More than 100,000 (103,000) ticket-holders will be able to experience the fireworks in person.

The first round of tickets, priced at £15 per head, will be released at noon on 21 October.

There will be a second and final ticket release ahead of the event, with a maximum of four tickets available per transaction.

Tickets must be purchased in advance in order to secure attendance.

Those without a ticket can watch the show live on BBC One or via BBC iPlayer while celebrating in various hospitality venues across the country.

Sadiq Khan, mayor of London, said: “I’m delighted that our fireworks are back and Londoners and visitors to our capital will again be able to join together on the banks of the Thames to welcome in the new year.

"The celebrations are one of the biggest nights of the year for our capital’s hospitality industry and an unforgettable moment when the eyes of the world turn to our city. This year will be the best ever!"

Imran Tauqir, general manager of the lastminute.com London Eye, said: “London’s New Year’s Eve fireworks are renowned as the world’s most iconic New Year’s Eve celebrations and we are delighted to partner with the Mayor of London to bring this incredible show back to the lastminute.com London Eye.”

City Hall is working with partner agencies such as the Met Police, Transport for London, local authorities and emergency services to ensure people’s safety throughout the event.

The New Year’s Eve fireworks has been a ticketed event since 2014 to prevent overcrowding.
