Restaurateurs launch A Good Dinner to raise £250,000 for charity

A group of restaurant owners, investors and operators are hoping to raise £250,000 to tackle food and water poverty at home and abroad, as part of a new charity initiative.

A Good Dinner, created by hospitality industry figures including Hawksmoor co-founder Will Beckett, chef and restaurateur Mark Hix, and Hawksmoor chair and former chief executive of Spirit Group Karen Jones, will see its inaugural event take place on 11 October.

Supported by technology provider the Access Group, the dinner will support Action Against Hunger, The One Foundation and the Magic Breakfast.

The event, which is already sold-out, will bring together operators, investors and advisors and will offer an opportunity to network while also combatting poverty.

Inception Group and Hawksmoor will provide drinks and dinner at the Bloomsbury Ballroom in London for around 200 guests. Bibendum will also curate a selection of wines.

Tables of 10 cost £5,000 and there will be a silent auction to raise additional funds.

“A few of us wanted to do more and try to raise money to help fulfil this pressing need at home and abroad. This year we’ve picked three amazing organisations: Action Against Hunger, Magic Breakfast and The One Foundation.

“We want ‘A Good Dinner’ to be exactly that: a really enjoyable evening that raises a large amount of money for a great cause.”

Chris Bayne, chief executive officer, Access Group, said: “At the Access Group, we appreciate that success in business carries wider responsibilities. While we enjoy unprecedented growth and exciting fun times in the hospitality sector, many in the world struggle to cope with famine, malnutrition and unsafe water. By actively participating in the inaugural ‘A Good Dinner’ event alongside our friends at Hawksmoor we hope we can help make a difference to the people who need it most.”
