Gold is set to open next month on the site of the Portobello Gold public house in London with former River Café sous chef Theo Hill at the helm.
The European restaurant and bar's front of house team will be overseen by former Charlotte's Group head of operations Alex Ghalleb and Arez Akgundogdu, who worked as an assistant general manager for Soho House.
Food will be cooked in wood ovens or over open flame and served to share, with dishes including: wood-roasted whole sea bream, wild oregano, capers; burrata, charred pears, Parma ham, radicchio, balsamic; wood-roasted cauliflower, toasted buckwheat, cumin, yogurt, coriander; nettle ravioli, sheep's ricotta, sorrel.
Set over four floors, the ground floor will feature a bar and open kitchen area, leading out into a garden room with a retractable roof and trees. The first floor will house a lounge and dining area and the second floor will be taken up by a private party room.
The "bohemian" interiors will be designed by Felix and Valerie von Bechtolsheim and will draw on Portobello's industrial past to create a ‘stripped back' aesthetic, as well as Notting Hill's identity as a cultural hub. With former residents of the area including artists David Hockney and Lucien Freud, Vhils has been commissioned to create a series of artworks to decorate the venue.
