Redundancy consultations taking place within Brownsword Hotels portfolio

Varying levels of redundancy consultations are taking place across the Andrew Brownsword Hotels portfolio, but not in every property, a spokesperson has confirmed.

The group said every property will be opening as soon as it is able, with plans for a 4 July opening at present, and each site is looking at restructured operations to remain commercially viable.

A spokesperson for the group said: “With the Andrew Brownsword Hotels group comprising 13 hugely varying styles of property, with the Imperial Torquay (pictured) owned in addition, trading forecasts for each hotel have been individually examined, meaning there isn’t a blanket approach across the group.

“Every property will be opening as soon as it is able (planning towards 4 July at present) and we have thought very carefully and as creatively as we could about how we steer our group of hotels into the future positively, from where we are today. We have painstakingly explored every avenue to reopen in ways that will best fulfil new level market demands and to ensure we secure the business’ future and with the absolute priority to protect as many of our valuable team as possible.

“As a result of this re-evaluation, each property is working towards implementing individually restructured operations in order to remain commercially viable. Varying levels of redundancy consultations are taking place according to each hotel, but not in every property, with each hotel continuing to explore every avenue to reduce any potential job losses.”

Winner of the AA Hotel Group of the Year 2017-18, the group’s portfolio consists of hotels including Gidleigh Park in Chagford, Devon, the Bath Priory, and four Abode hotels.

It is just one of many hotel groups currently considering redundancies – The Caterer reported yesterday that Macdonald Hotels Group, Apex Hotels and English Lakes Hotels have all entered into consultation periods with staff, with around 1,800 jobs at risk at Macdonald.

Marriott, Crieff Hydro, InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG), PPHE Hotel Group and OYO have also confirmed redundancies are possible or have already occurred.
