Two-Michelin-starred chef Rafael Cagali is to open a second site within the Town Hall hotel in London’s Bethnal Green.
Cagali, who is the chef-owner of Da Terra, which is housed in the same building as the hotel, will take on the Corner Room restaurant in addition to his acclaimed restaurant.
The refurbished 30-cover restaurant will be called Elis in tribute to Cagali’s mother, who owned a restaurant and jazz bar in Brazil named after musician Elis Regina.
Described as a more relaxed version of the Brazilian-Italian inspired food he serves at Da Terra, dishes will include bolinho de bacalhau (cod fritters), crab tagliolini verde, baby monkfish tail with black tucupi glaze and pork chops with black beans and chimichurri. Wines will be supplied by Noble Rot with a short list of 10-12 bins.
Cagali said: “Elis is inspired by my mother and childhood and we will be serving more rustic dishes, with a selection of elegant snacks and good wines.
“I have wanted to explore some of the more relaxed elements of Brazilian and Italian food culture for some time; drawing on everything from my favourite street food to family meal celebration dishes that my grandma used to make.”
