QHotels has appointed its second general manager for the Midland hotel in Manchester since the departure of Michael Magrane in October 2016.
Simon Farr will replace Christopher Wayne-Wills, who joined the hotel in January but has decided to return to Scotland to be closer to his family.
Farr joins from operations director at GLH, the very position Magrane left QHotels to take up last year. He had been responsible for 5,000 bedrooms in central London, as well as being operations director Malaysia for Thistle hotels, which included projects in Singapore and Kuala Lumpur.
The move comes as QHotels continues to upgrade the Midland hotel, spending £400,000 on the launch of the Tea Room having already invested £1.5m creating a spa in the building.
Farr said: "The Midland hotel is an instantly recognisable landmark in Manchester and has been the city's most prestigious hotel since it opened in 1903. To become the latest general manager of this fabulous establishment is a real honour. I'm looking forward to ensuring that it continues to evolve to offer the highest levels of service and that for all of our guests a visit to The Midland remains a real experience."
QHotels managing director Michael Purtill added: "Simon is someone who is inspired by people, both guests and colleagues, which made him the natural choice for this role with QHotels. His experience means he understands the essence of good service and the need to be constantly vigilant in order to respond to new markets and the changing needs of our customers."
