Pret to open at Roadchef motorway services

Pret A Manger has announced a partnership with Roadchef to open shops at its UK motorway service stations.

The first will open at Chester Motorway Service Area (MSA) on the M56 at junction 14 before Christmas, with a second to open at Clacket Lane West on the M25 between junction 5 and 6 in the spring of 2018.

Clive Schlee, chief executive of Pret, said: "Pret's fast service is perfect for busy travellers, and we are looking forward to increasing our presence on motorways in the UK."

Simon Turl, chief executive of Roadchef, added: "Pret is an instantly recognisable brand that will be a great addition to our sites."

Pret has approximately 500 shops in seven countries. Pret opened its first and only other motorway service shop at the South Mimms Services on Junction 23 of the M25 in July 2016 as part of a 12-month trial partnership with Welcome Break, however no further openings have followed.

This year, Pret saw sales grow 15% to £776.2m, driven by sales in dairy- and gluten-free ranges. Since the first Pret opened 30 years ago, the brand has been donating unsold food to the homeless every night.

Roadchef has 30 locations in the UK and over 52 million visitors to its sites each year.
