Plans for 140-bedroom hotel in Nottingham's Guildhall

A planning application is expected to be submitted in the late spring to convert and extend Nottingham's Grade II-listed Guildhall into a 140-bedroom hotel.

Property developer Miller Birch acquired the Victorian building, designed in the French Renaissance Revivalist-style by architects Thomas Verity and George Hunt, from Nottingham City Council in October 2016.

In March 2017, the company announced that it intended to transform the building and surrounding 2.3 acre site, which encompasses the former fire and police stations and adjacent Guildhall Place, into a 100-plus-bedroom boutique hotel and a new teaching facility and student accommodation for Nottingham Trent University. However, the university pulled out of the £120m scheme in October 2018.

Now the plan is to focus on developing a hotel with a restaurant, bar, spa and function rooms which Mark Bielby, development director at Miller Birch, said will be "business class, at the quality end of the spectrum".

If planning permission is obtained, the hotel could open in autumn 2021.
