PizzaExpress to close Za site but ‘remains committed’ to the format

PizzaExpress is to close its Za concept in London’s Fenchurch Street and revert the site to its original brand.

The company, which launched the concept in March as a grab-and-go, by-the-slice offering, has said it will relaunch it in a better suited site in 2020.

Zoe Bowley, UK and Ireland managing director, said: “Our new brand, Za, was launched earlier this year, following robust research which highlighted customer appetite for fast, fresh pizza by the slice. As part of our test and learn strategy, we’re pleased it has proven our initial test of concept.

“We remain committed to the Za format and brand, continue to refine the proposition and currently plan to open a brand-new site more suited to Za in 2020.”

The casual dining pizza company has over 470 branches across the UK. This year it opened five new sites and refurbished 20 restaurants.
