Former Rudding Park managing director Peter Banks and executive chef of London’s Grosvenor House hotel Nigel Boschetti, walked away with the top gongs at the 2024 Hotel Cateys.

Nominees from across the industry gathered for a black-tie celebration at Park Plaza Westminster Bridge on 25 November.

Banks was recognised for his extraordinary 28-year tenure leading the team at Rudding Park in Harrogate, which saw him grow the business from 15 employees and a turnover of £1.5m to 320 employees and a turnover of £28m.

Banks, who announced his intention to step down from his executive role at Rudding Park this year, won the Outstanding Contribution Award for his “passion, dedication and relentless drive to want to be the best”.

Jonathan Raggett, chief executive of Red Carnation Hotels, said: “I have known Peter for some 20 years, shortly after he took the reins at Rudding Park. Peter has many strengths, one of which is taking on any challenge with great gusto and getting results.

“He is a charismatic leader and likeable person who always gives his very best, which makes him a very worthy winner of the Outstanding Contribution Award.”

Meanwhile, Boschetti walked away with the Extra Mile Award for his incredible work overseeing one of the capital’s most complex dining operations at Grosvenor House, which ranges from in-room dining to banquets for up to 2,000 people, including The Caterer’s Catey awards.

The evening’s other winners included Gareth Banner, managing director of the Ned, who was named 2024 Hotelier of the Year, while the Pig Hotel Group won Sustainable Hotel of the Year and Mollie’s Motels walked away with People Team of the Year.

Hotel Restaurant Chef of the Year went to Shaun Rankin, chef-patron of Shaun Rankin at Grantley Hall, while Hotel Chef of the Year (more than 250 covers) was awarded to Sarah Frankland, executive chef at Pennyhill Park.

Hotel Chef of the Year (fewer than 250 covers) went to Paul Leonard, head chef at Forest Side in Grasmere.
