As well as branded bar screens, Dorset-based pub the Pear At Parley has taken inspiration from overseas by adopting American-style lawn circles: simple white circular markings placed at the edges of the pub’s garden area, each two metres apart, for customers to sit in and abide by social distancing measures.

The Royal, a new gastropub in St Leonards-on-Sea in East Sussex, housed in a renovated 18th-century public house, has reopened. When it came under new ownership last year, its popular offerings were Sunday roasts and feasting menus, which will return, but for now the venue has removed 25% of tables, become reservation-only and is offering a lunchtime takeaway of focaccia sandwiches, tortilla wedges and boxed salads for guests to picnic on the beach.

Smokestak in London’s Shoreditch has reopened with a simple, stripped-back menu, which focuses on meat that has been gently wood-smoked overnight, sold per 100g and sliced to order. Walk-in guests can grab a table on the terrace, while the capacity of the dining room has been reduced by 30% to allow for social distancing. Smokestak at Home continues with London-wide delivery launching on 3 July, followed by nationwide delivery on 31 July.

Yo! has revamped its sushi belt system to deliver freshly made dishes and drinks direct to tables after guests have ordered and paid using a QR code and digital menu. A traffic light system will turn amber to tell customers when their food is on its way and green when it arrives.

Ennismore has launched Tandoor Tacos as a sister brand to its Tandoor Chop House concept, a more casual, grab-and-go set up with paratha breads filled with Indian and Mexican flavours, spices and pickles. The concept is currently operating as a pop-up at the group’s Hoxton Southwark hotel in London for collection and delivery, with pop-ups at Eggbreak in Notting Hill and Tandoor Chop House in Covent Garden to follow.

The Roseate Reading hotel has opened a new restaurant called the Reading Room. The tasting, à la carte and afternoon tea menus focus on seasonal British ingredients, while the bar area offers secluded seating. The restaurant also has an outdoor patio for diners and a breakout space for coffee meetings or private dining.

Nine Lives Alley has opened on Holyrood Street near London Bridge, serving Mexican tacos and cocktails from the ‘tigre taco truck’. The concept has been designed and produced by parent company and global drinks agency Sweet&Chilli.
