Plans to open the UK's second Park Regis hotel in London this year have been abandoned.
In September 2016 it was announced the 125-bedroom upscale boutique Park Regis Shoreditch hotel would be opening near Old Street in June 2017. However, a spokesperson for the Australian-owned StayWell Hospitality Group has confirmed that the hotel will now no longer be opening.
Last year, StayWell said it would be growing its Park Regis and Leisure Inn brands in the UK following a deal with hotel management company Fiveways Hospitality. It said a master licensing agreement between the two parties would see the announcement of four new hotels in the UK over the next two years.
Robin Ford, operations director at Fiveways Hospitality, said the master franchise agreement with StayWell continues and the plan is still to open four hotels within two years. Staywell confirmed the UK is still a key market for the company's development.
The 272-bedroom Park Regis Birmingham, StayWell's first Park Regis in Europe and first UK hotel, opened in 2016 and is operated by Fiveways.
As well as managing the Park Regis Birmingham, Fiveways operates a wider portfolio of branded hotels and independent properties such as the Holiday Inn Express Birmingham South, and Pelham House in Lewes, East Sussex.
StayWell has 35 hotels in Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, India, Australia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and the UK.
