Paris attacks: hospitality businesses in London warned to be vigilant

Hospitality operators in London are being advised by police to remain vigilant following the devastating terrorist attacks in Paris on Friday.

The Association of Licensed Multiple Retailers (ALMR), the trade association for pubs, bars and casual dining restaurants, has been told by the Metropolitan Police that all businesses should "review their continuity plans and ensure their staff are trained to respond to incidents".

The recommendation follows the Paris attacks in which 129 people died. Alongside the incidents at the Stade de France and the Bataclan theatre, other attacks focused on restaurants and bars.

It is believed that around 38 people died when gunmen went on the rampage at the Cambodian restaurant Le Petit Cambodge, a café-bar called Le Carillon, the Casa Nostra pizzeria and the Belle Epoque brasserie.

Sir Bernard Hogan Howe, the Metropolitan Police commissioner said: "London and Paris are linked as two of the world's capital cities and we stand prepared to help in any way. My thoughts and those of the Met officers and staff are with Paris and men and woman whose job it is to deal with this horrific situation."

The current threat from international terrorism to the United Kingdom remains at a severe level, which means that an attack is highly likely.
