Opera Tavern to reopen with new menu and chef following refurb

Opera Tavern in London's Covent Garden will reopen next month with a new menu, a new chef at the helm and a new look.

The site will continue to serve Spanish-Italian small plates, including old favourites such as the Ibérico pork burger and N'duja scotch egg, however new owner Urban Pubs & Bars Group plans to take the venue "back to basics".

New dishes will include pluma with piquillo pepper purée; chicken saltimbocca, aubergine; lemon sole, basil purée and brown shrimp sauce; and bavette, onion and bone marrow.

The restaurant will be overseen by head chef Lukasz Kiełbasiński, who has been promoted having spent the last two years working as senior sous chef at sister restaurant Salt Yard.

The restaurant façade will be painted pale grey and feature racing green awning, gold lettering and a neon swing sign. The 24-cover ground floor will be rearranged to get maximum use out of the space.

Urban Pubs & Bars snapped up the whole Salt Yard Group, which also included Dehesa and Ember Yard in Soho, in November last year, having bought Opera Tavern in August.
