Offers of £1m sought for Ribble Valley Inn's Cheshire pub

Ribble Valley Inns, the pub subsidiary of Northcote Leisure Group, has put the Nags Head on the market for around £1m.

Located in the hamlet of Haughton Moss, near Tarporley, Cheshire, the Grade II-listed pub restaurant partly dates back to 1680. It was acquired by Ribble Valley Inns in 2013 and relaunched following an extensive refurbishment and extension, with interiors by Chester-based designer Lister Carter.

Craig Bancroft, director of Ribble Valley Inns, said that it was challenging to run the Nags Head "the way we would like to", considering the distance from the group's headquarters at the Michelin-starred hotel and restaurant Northcote in Langho, Lancashire.

"We will now be reverting back to the original family of four pubs which we will make great again," he added.

Ribble Valley Inns launched in 2004 with the Three Fishes in Mitton, Lancashire, which the following year scooped the Catey award for the Pub and Bar Operator of the Year. The portfolio also includes the Highwayman in Kirby Lonsdale, Cumbria; the Clog and Billycock at Pleasington, Lancashire; and the Bull in Broughton, North Yorkshire.

The Nags Head, a one-time smithy, now features a bar, a 80-seat restaurant and a separate dining area for 20 people.

The 1.6-acre site also has a three-bedroom flat, two-bedroom detached cottage, beer garden with seating for 60, bowling green and parking for over 50 vehicles.

Property agent Colliers International is handling the sale of the Nags Head.

Colin Siebert, director, licensed and leisure at the Manchester office of Colliers, said: "The Nags Head is a beautiful character pub in an affluent and picturesque Cheshire hamlet, and we're very confident of attracting a high level of interest from prospective buyers."
