New World Trading Company to launch new brand in Birmingham

The New World Trading Company (NWTC) is set to launch a new brand in Birmingham next month.

The Canal House will be the firm's second site in the city and will be the sixth brand in its portfolio.

Exclusive to Birmingham, it is inspired by the famous engineer James Brindley and will open on 14 August.

Based in Brindley Place at the former James Brindley pub on Bridge Street, the venue will honour the life and work of the 18th century engineer.

The cocktail menu will recall the era during which Brindley lived, along with 60 world ales, including Budvar's unpasteurised 90-day-aged tank beer Tankové Pivo'.

The Canal House will also serve up pub food centred around the rotisserie and grilled meats, alongside the deli section.

General manager, Liam Carney said: "Following the success of the Botanist, we're really excited to launch the Canal House in Birmingham this August. Birmingham is a great city with lots of ambition and passion. By delving into the rich history and heritage of this amazing location, we've created a fantastic concept that we are confident locals will enjoy the story of. Not only will this new venue have two floors and an outdoor seating area, but there will also be a secret gin distillery that will sit at the back of the first floor bar, but we can't talk about that of course!"

NWTC is headed up by chief executive Chris Hill, who last week won the Pub and Bar Catey award. Founded in November 2011 by the owners of Living Ventures, NWTC was recently acquired by private equity company Graphite capital in a £50m deal.

The business has seen rapid growth and currently has 17 sites, with sales growing by 150% per annum from £1m in March 2012 to £30.2m in March 2016. EBITDA has grown over the same period from £0.2m to £3.6m.
The business aims to grow to over 50 sites within the next few years.
