Over the last couple of years, sectors across the board have experienced huge operational changes as they have responded to recent uncertainty.
These changes have brought lots of challenges for business leaders and owners but also enabled them to show the adaptability of businesses during difficult circumstances. The hospitality sector, in particular, underwent huge disruption but proved its resilience. Research commissioned by Nespresso Professional found that 90% of hospitality businesses have adapted in some form since the pandemic.
Such innovations and adaptations have helped businesses to stay afloat – a major achievement in such trying times – and all whilst businesses have continued to offer high quality food and drink alongside top-class customer service. Much has focused on digitalisation – with everyone from cafes to restaurants, through to caterers and hotels embracing contactless payments, online bookings and social media.
Now restrictions have eased, many businesses are operating in the ‘new normal’. Commuters are returning, tourists are back exploring and foodies are dining out again. From restaurants, hotel rooms, meeting rooms to offices or at home, Nespresso is everywhere for those looking for a high-quality, responsibly sourced coffee.

As limitations lift businesses are beginning to reflect on lessons learned from the pandemic, and they are beginning to go forward with future ambitions – albeit carefully. For many, this entails a greater emphasis on enhancing sustainability credentials. According to Nespresso Professional research, two-thirds (67%) of people in the hospitality business believe that sustainability will become even more important in the coming year. This is unsurprising, given the importance of the issue to consumers across the United Kingdom. Customer demand is a future driver for sustainability measures, according to little under half (46%) of those polled.
There are numerous ways for hospitality and catering businesses to begin their sustainability journey – or to boost their sustainability credentials – whether it's lowering carbon emissions, sourcing sustainably produced items, raising recycling rates, or exploring novel packaging. Nespresso is no exception. Every cup of Nespresso will be carbon neutral by the end of 2022; this year, it proudly joined with Conservation International to help safeguard 10 million trees in La Pedrera, Colombia; and its Original and Vertuo capsules, now include 80% and 85% recycled aluminium respectively.
Nespresso's pledges and achievements to date have allowed us to not only operate more sustainably, but also to assist our hospitality partners everywhere in achieving their own sustainability goals.
