National Adopt a School Week set for March

Chefs and restaurateurs are gearing up to take part in the second National Adopt a School Week run by the Royal Academy of Culinary Arts (RACA).

More than 2000 school children will be visited by industry professionals who will take lessons in food provenance, healthy eating, food preparation, bread making and front of house skills, during the week of 5 March.

Companies supporting the event include the Ritz London, Harrisons Catering, Lexington, Elior UK, the Pig (Home Grown Hotels), Goodwood Estate, Cordon Bleu, Evolve Hospitality, Natoora, Quorn, University of West London, Saltyard, the Delaunay, Locanda Locatelli, and Lucknam Park Hotel & Spa.

Among the contributing chefs will be Hywel Jones of Lucknam Park, Adam Byatt of Trinity restaurant, London, James Golding of Home Grown Hotels and Giorgio Locatelli of Locanda Locatelli.

The aim of the Adopt a School Week is to increase awareness of the charity which was set up in 1990 to teach food provenance, cooking, healthy eating, nutrition, hygiene and the importance of eating together.

Adopt a School relies totally on voluntary donations, such as the £18,000 collected at The Caterer's Catey Awards 2017.

Sara Jayne Stanes, chief executive of the Royal Academy of Culinary Arts and Adopt a School, added: “There is more and more evidence that learning from an early age about food and nutrition â€" and its impact on us and the environment - can aid emotional and physical development and is a catalyst for cross curricula education linking with all mainstream subjects.”
