Nangreaves locals form co-operative to buy Lancashire pub

Local residents have banded together to buy the Lord Raglan pub in Nangreaves, Lancashire.

The Raglan Community Hub (TRCH) has formed in an attempt to buy the pub near Ramsbottom, which has been closed since the owners, the Leyden family, retired in October 2017. The family had run the pub since 1952.

The property is on the market with a number of agents for approaching £500,000.

TRCH will take steps to buy the buy with the launch of a share offer in mid-May and a PR, direct marketing and social media campaign. Those interested in buying shares in the pub will be required to invest £250.

TRCH has been registered as a co-operative and community benefit society and enlisted help from the Plunkett Foundation, which supports community co-operatives.

TRCH hopes to raise the necessary cash from the local community and neighbouring villages to buy the pub, renovate it and begin trading.
